

The Western Solano County Grape Growers Association successfully petitioned the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (BATF), and subsequently received formal designation of Suisun Valley as an identified American Viticultural Area. Suisun Valley received its American Viticultural Area designation just 28 years ago, only one year after Napa Valley. Ron being a self described wine geek holds the following credentials, he is a Certified Sommelier through The Court Of Master Sommeliers a French Wine Scholar with Honors through The French Wine Society and a California Wine Appelation Specialist. Ron has a passion for teaching and writing he has appeared in Mutineer Magazine and Imbibe Magazine and was named as Comic Con’s official sommelier. Ron decided to return to his roots at Vezer Family Vineyard and is our winery sommelier. Ron was then hired by Food Network Chef Tyler Florence’s restaurant Wayfare Tavern to run their beverage program. Ron was later promoted to senior sommelier at Hakkasan where he oversaw a wine list with over 300 selections. After two years with Vezer Family Vineyard he was given the opportunity to be a sommelier at a new restaurant opening in San Francisco called Hakkasan. He was hired by Vezer Family Vineyard in 2010 and was the staff wine educator and director of outside sales. Upon graduation Ron worked at La Toque in Napa and The Carneros Bistro in Sonoma. Ron graduated at the top of his class winning The Broadbent Award.

Ron decided to follow his passion and enrolled in the prestiges Professional Culinary Institute’s Sommelier Program. Our Sommelier – Ron Plunkett Ron is a Northern California native and after 21 years with the Solano County Sheriff’s Department he retired. This method consists of balancing opposing elements to create wines that are dynamic, complex, and embody the classical ideals that define the world’s finest wines. The Vezr family practices the 1938 approach to their wine making, which was born with Frank Vezr’s father, Frank Vezr II. The Vezr wines are winning accolades and awards from across the country, as well with international panels. Since then, they have produced eight additional vintages. In 2001, the Vezr’s decided to establish their own wines and produced their first vintage of Zinfandel in the year 2003. For growing Petite Sirah, the Suisun Valley Appellation is rated as the oldest and best in the State of California by the U.C Davis University. The Suisun Valley has the perfect soil and micro-climate which enables these vines to develop the choicest grapes. Their winery is best know for their Petite Sirah and their Zinfandel, which are rated among the best in the region, and are used in well-known wines, such as Sin Zin and Ravenswood.
